The PC now boots into Windows 8, but without any of the pre-installed software that came with the system. I then used the media to do a factory restore which worked. I tried to have the recovery media repair the installation, but ended up right back to where I was when I first put the drive into the computer and after waiting. I called Dell back and they said they would send me the Recovery Media which showed up in a couple more days. Finally, it reboots and while finishing the installation, it says that there is a problem and I should reboot to restart the installation. I pop the drive into the system and wait, and wait, and wait.

The drive arrived a couple days later with a sticker on the static bag that says 'Imaged'. (SMART Error) I requested a replacement HD from Dell and requesed that it have the 'factory image' because the user hadn't gotten around to creating the restore media.

A user has a new Dell Inspiron 660s with Windows 8. In the event it is necessary to restore data, users can choose to restore the entire system or just specific files or folders. Here's my story. Once an initial image of a hard drive is completed, users can make future backups incrementally - updating only the files and information that have changed rather than backing up the entire hard drive again. Users also benefit by saving valuable time and storage space with Norton Ghost's incremental backup and restore feature. Imaging takes place in the background without interruption, allowing users to continue work on their system as the backup takes place. With Norton Ghost, users can now create backup images without restarting their computer or exiting Windows through the product's hot imaging technology. Enhanced with Drive Image technology, which Symantec obtained through the acquisition of PowerQuest Corporation, Norton Ghost offers consumers the ultimate solution in data storage and protection with a complete, reliable, quick and easy way to backup system files, programs, settings, documents and other important data. Norton Ghost is a comprehensive disk imaging solution for home and small office users.
